chuuni.org a curated collection of timeless content about manifesto

Our lives are only so long, and they are denominated quite precisely, second by second. We have 500,000 hours

With our too too short lives, and so much to see, one does oneself a great disservice by consuming anything but the best.

-- Culture is not about Esthetics

There are roughly a thousand times as many people alive in the US right now as lived in Florence during the fifteenth century. A thousand Leonardos and a thousand Michelangelos walk among us. If DNA ruled, we should be greeted daily by artistic marvels. We aren't, and the reason is that to make Leonardo you need more than his innate ability. You also need Florence in 1450.

Nothing is more powerful than a community of talented people working on related problems. Genes count for little by comparison: being a genetic Leonardo was not enough to compensate for having been born near Milan instead of Florence. Today we move around more, but great work still comes disproportionately from a few hotspots: the Bauhaus, the Manhattan Project, the New Yorker, Lockheed's Skunk Works, Xerox Parc.

-- Taste for Makers

chuuni.org is a collection of great content - a distillation of the web.

Every day there is an astounding amount of content being created - more than any one person can consume. With such abundance, great content gets lost in the vast sea of not-so-great stuff. Our objective is to collect and organize the best of everything - videos, essays, books, documentaries, quotations, poems, music, comic strips, artwork - all in a single place.

On top of that, we're a community of people that strive for excellence in all areas of human endeavour. The community has a symbiotic relationship with the rest of the website - by discovering, producing, sharing, and discussing content, it helps improve our collection, which in turn serves as a common framework for further discussions. Every member is expected to read a sizable portion of the collection before participating.

We're only starting. There are already a lot of topics being covered, but there is even more to cover. We'll keep refining the older sections as we expand.

Library - Currently the most developed part of the site, it's comprised mostly of essays and quotations, while ocassionally featuring images, comic strips, videos and other media as well.

Quotes - A dump for all the quotations that didn't fit in the library. They are usually one or two paragraphs long with a key insight, but there's a section for one-liners too.

Books - Effort to select the best books on every subject. Right now the selection is sorta tentative - a lot of the books we haven't read yet, but they were nevertheless recommended by trustworthy sources.

Harmful - Software is an integral part of modern life. For that reason, it can have deep implications on how society functions. Here we provide some recommendations on what to use and what to avoid.

Fun - Entertainment and other cultural things that were too uninsightful to be featured in other sections, but are still fun or interesting.
